Good questions. Clear answers.

Who is the Private AI Sydney Workshop designed for, and do I need a technical background?

It is designed for non-technical business owners, managing partners, practice managers, and operations leads in Sydney and NSW. Legal, accounting/CPA, healthcare/NDIS, financial advisory, real estate, and engineering teams are especially welcome. Zero coding or technical background is required.

Where and when is the next OpenOnion Private AI workshop in Sydney?

Saturday, 7 November 2026, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM AEDT at the Michael Crouch Innovation Centre (MCIC), Level G, Hilmer Building (E10), Union Rd, UNSW Sydney, Kensington NSW 2033. Early bird tickets are A$79 until 2 November; standard tickets are A$99. The workshop is capped at 20 seats.

What is the difference between public ChatGPT/Copilot, AWS Sydney cloud AI, and local Private AI hardware?

Public ChatGPT/Copilot services process data in provider-managed infrastructure; residency, retention and licensing depend on the product, plan and settings. An AWS Sydney private VPC can place selected workloads in an Australian cloud region, with ongoing cloud and model costs. A dedicated local appliance runs selected open-weight models and document processing on your own hardware, without per-seat SaaS model licensing. Data flows, access controls and Australian Privacy Principles obligations must be assessed for each deployment; hosting location alone does not establish compliance.

OAIC guidance on privacy & AI

Can OpenOnion deploy a custom Private AI system or workflow for our Sydney office after the workshop?

Yes. OpenOnion provides end-to-end Private AI Deployment and AI Workflows & Adoption services across Sydney and Australia: local LLM appliances, private cloud VPCs, document RAG, custom multi-agent systems, integrations and team training. Start with a 1-on-1 workflow assessment to agree on the use case, data boundaries and rollout plan.

How much does it cost to run a local Private AI server for a 10–100 person Australian business?

The typical hardware footprint starts with a compact Mac Studio or local GPU appliance for 10–30 staff and scales to dedicated rack servers or private VPC clusters for larger teams. Selected open-weight models can run with zero per-seat SaaS model fees. Total cost depends on model size, concurrent use, storage, hardware, electricity, support and any cloud services; there is no universal fixed price. The workshop explains hardware tiers, token cost savings and ROI, and an assessment provides a workload-specific estimate.
